What do you do when you can’t fish?

When you’re stuck inside and can’t go fishing what does one do? Watch the latest Real Housewives of Beverly Hills? Or maybe read a well-written novel? Nope. The answer we were looking for was “tie some flies”. We also would have accepted “bust out the fly-tying tools” or “make artificial fish food.” Thanks for playing.

Bear Creek

Bear Creek is a small creek located just southwest of Denver. The stream is not too wide, maybe 25-30 feet across, with a good amount of overhanging trees and brush making it somewhat difficult to make full casts in most sections. The majority of fish that live in here are brown trout with a few rainbows sprinkled in here and there. Most of them are pretty small, in the 7-10 inch range, but you will catch a 12 incher every once in a while! I have caught most of my fish in this creek on Elk Hair Caddis, Hoppers, and Pheasant Tail Nymphs.

Fishing Spots

I haven’t been able to go fishing in what feels like forever. I was looking through some pictures I have taken the past couple years and I’m really starting to miss the summer. To help me get through the long winter, besides making t-shirts, I have decided to post about some of my favorite spots. First up will be Bear Creek.

T-Shirting

To get The Fly Trout on a shirt you have to do a little bit of t-shirting. T-shirting includes designing, printing, wearing, and selling t-shirts. I have a started a couple of online t-shirt shops, www.doschicostees.com and goodtalkbrand.com. Soon I will be putting some shirts up for sale in the Fly T-shirt Shop section of the site. But in the mean time take a look some pictures of some screens I made that will be used to print shirts.

Fish on a Hitch

Yesterday on my way to work I saw this SUV with something on the ball hitch that moved and lit up when the brakes were stepped on. I never got close enough to see exactly what it was, but I thought since it was nearing Halloween that it was a rat that shook its behind and whose eyes lit up with red LED lights when the driver braked. The next day I saw the same exactly vehicle about the same exact time, but this time I pulled right up behind it and saw exactly what it was. It was a fish with its mouth on the ball hitch! When the brakes were stepped on the eyes of the fish lit up and the fish’s tail shook back and forth. When I got to work I looked it up and what I saw was called a “hitch critter.” I ended up on http://www.hitchcritters.com to see that there are seven different critters you can put on your hitch.

If I see this again I will try to take some video!

Handguns are fun

I talked about about how after shooting handguns with my dad that I decided to buy one. After doing some research and trying out a few different models I decided on a Ruger SR9c. The SR9c is a compact 9mm semi-automatic pistol that comes with two magazines, a 10 round magazine and a 17 round extended magazine. I chose this weapon for a few different reasons. The main reason was that I really liked how it felt in my hand. The weight was nice and it fit my fingers really well. I also like that, because it is a little smaller, I can use it as a conceal handgun if I chose to get my concealed carry license.

Shooting fish in a barrel

Well it’s actually not shooting fish in a barrel. It’s not shooting fish at all. It’s just normal shooting. About 15 years ago I did a little bird hunting and clay pigeon shooting. It was a lot of fun but for reasons I am unsure of, I just kind of stopped doing it. Well recently I visited my dad in New Mexico and he took me to a range near his house to fire his small arsenal and my 12 gauge shotgun that I haven’t shot in 10 years. Let me just say it was a blast! Pun intended. We shot a 9mm, .45 cal, his 12 gauge, my 12 gauge, and an AR-15. It was the first time I had ever shot a handgun, besides a little pellet pistol, and it was very fun and challenging. So much so that I recently purchased my very own 9mm pistol. I will show some pictures of it in a future post.
