Splish Splash See Ya

Vin Bear Creek

I took my 8-year-old fly fishing for a couple hours last weekend and we had a great time. We went to Bear Creek to see if we could hook up with a few browns and that we did. It’s a pretty small creek with a lot of trees so I did most of the casting. I really need to take him to the park so we can work on his casting. I told him that and he was like “why would we go to the park to cast? There’s no water there.” I explained him that if we work on it there, when we get to a river or lake it won’t be so frustrating. Anyway we hooked up with a few and probably should have got some more, but I was ill-prepared with my BWO selection. The ones I had with me were just too big. Sometimes you just don’t have the right bugs to Match the Hatch. Check out the short video clip that he helped film. Stay Fly.

Jefferson Lake Bows

A couple of weekends ago I went up to beautiful Jefferson Lake. The lake is nestled between a few mountains at about 10,000 feet above sea level. I went with my buddy Esteban and we decided to use our belly boats. Good idea because the lake was super crowded, but man was that water cold! It was pretty cool because there were fish jumping everywhere and eating off the top. Nothing over 13 inches, but it was still a great time. Here’s a video of some of the trip.

Clear Creek Browns

If you like a lot of action and don’t care about size, (mind out of the gutter as I am talking about fly fishing) then Clear Creek this time of the year is the place for you. I went up for the morning a couple of Saturdays ago and the brown trout were hungry! I was able to catch 9 and missed a bunch more in about two and a half hours in the am. Here is some video of the great morning.

Not So Clear Creek

I was really excited to do some river fishing today as I hadn’t been in a couple weeks. Right after work I headed straight up to the foothills, past Golden and into Clear Creek Canyon to fish Clear Creek. I slapped on my gear and hiked down to the river.

Any luck? Nope, not luck at all. No bites, nothin’. I didn’t see any fish, but that was because this river was fast and definitely not clear. Looks like I will have to go again this weekend! Check out this “exciting” video of the river.

Sunday Fly Fishing (bait and lures were used too)

I had a very nice day fishing with the family and a friend at Antero Reservoir. It was a nice 63 degrees, mostly calm with a few small periods of light wind.

I only landed one small rainbow, but still had a great time nonetheless. I was happy that he went after the wooly bugger I had just tied up on Friday night. Doesn’t it kind of look like this little guy has a mustache? He must have gone through puberty early.

My buddy was using lures and had a few hookups and landed one. My wife was using lures and bait; also only landing one. It, however, was definitely the catch of the day. She used dreaded powerbait, which I do not condone nor condemn, to land her a nice 17-incher. Below is the video of its release.
